It’s not easy saying goodbye

It’s not easy saying goodbye

It’s not easy saying goodbye but after five years, Leigh Jones, owner of Inspired Arts & Gifts in Yarrow, is closing its doors permanently.

This was a difficult decision for Leigh whose childhood dream was to own a small retail store. In fact, to own a store in a rural setting would have been a bonus. And that is exactly what happened.

“In 2017 while looking for a country home in Yarrow, I drove past a small retail store and saw a sign out front that read ‘Closing Out Sale’.  I went in…bought a scarf and then bought the business.” Leigh recalls.

Unfortunately the last two years have been fraught with challenges starting with the onset of the COVID pandemic in March 2020 which forced the closure of the store for 8 weeks. The pandemic continued to present further challenges with the ever-changing rules and restrictions.

Mother Nature played her hand in contributing to the store’s demise with severe weather conditions including last summer’s heat dome and the catastrophic local flooding in November which caused the store to close for a further two weeks.

And finally, rising operational costs.

As difficult as this decision has been for Leigh, she is full of gratitude and thanks all her loyal customers and the community of Yarrow who have supported her small business throughout these tough times.

“It was also a pleasure to visit everyone,” she adds.

Leigh also thanks her staff along with all the amazing featured artisans who over the past five years supported her vision and who contributed to the success of the store.

“It’s been an amazing experience and life-fulfilling journey and for this I grateful. I look forward to contributing and volunteering in our community.”
